Beach Bits: • Entering the 2026 season Newberry has played a total of 35 events between the AVP and World Tour, and 28 have come alongside partners of hers at UCLA (Jaden Whitmarsh, Lindsey Sparks, Peri Brennan). Newberry continued her partnership with Whitmarsh, playing three AVP tournaments together. In the season opener they advanced from the qualifier to place ninth in Huntington Beach, the finished fifth in Denver on the Tour Series. They closed out the year with a 25th in Manhattan Beach. Newberry partnered with Geena Urango as a substitute player in the AVP League, competing for the San Diego Smash. They went 1-3 in matches in the regular season, then in the League Championships they won the quarterfinal match before dropping the semifinal contest. Newberry and Whitmarsh played in six World Tour events. In a Futures event they advanced from the qualifier to win a gold medal, and followed that up with a Challenge event in which they were seeded 24th in the qualifier and won a bronze medal. Newberry and Whitmarsh ended the season with a ninth place in an Elite event after advancing from the qualifier. 2024: Newberry and Jaden Whitmarsh played five AVP events together, with a best of third in Denver on the Contender Series. Internationally the duo advanced from a qualifier in a Futures event and won a bronze medal in Pompano Beach, Fla. 2023: Newberry played in five AVP events with three different partners. She had a best of fifth in Virginia Beach on the Tour Series with former college partner Jaden Whitmarsh, and also placed seventh in Hermosa Beach with Whitmarsh. 2022: Did not compete. 2021: Newberry advanced from the qualifier in both of her AVP events, in Manhattan Beach with Delaynie Maple and in Chicago with Macy Jerger. 2020: Did not compete. 2019: She played in two AVP qualifiers with two different partners, but did not advance in either, and also finished fourth in a NORCECA event alongside former college partner Peri Brennan. 2018: Newberry and former college partner Lindsey Sparks played three AVP events. After losing in the qualifier in their first one, they advanced in their next two, placing 17th in Hermosa Beach and 25th in Manhattan Beach. They also played three times internationally, including placing fourth in the FIVB U-19 World Championships in China and fourth in the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina. 2017: Newberry made her pro beach debut at the age of 17 in Huntington Beach alongside Keara Rutz, losing in the qualifier. She then played two more qualifiers with Lindsey Sparks but did not advance to the main draw in either event.
College: Newberry played beach volleyball at UCLA. Her freshman season was cut short due to COVID, and she ended with a 6-5 record while playing alongside Megan Muret and Rileigh Powers, mostly on court four. The next season she went 24-8, with the majority of the time partnering with Lindsey Sparks on court three. Newberry had an 11-match winning streak during the year and went 20-7 versus ranked teams. As a junior she played exclusively with Jaden Whitmarsh, ending with a 28-7 record on courts two and three. She went 21-7 against ranked teams and had a 14-match winning streak. Injuries shortened her senior season but she went 13-0, including 11-0 with Whitmarsh and 11-0 versus ranked opponents. Newberry was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team. She went 32-7 as a graduate student, playing all her matches with Peri Brennan on court two. In her time at UCLA, the Bruins were national runners-up three times and third place once. Her 103 career wins ranked ninth at UCLA when she left the program, and her 39 victories with Jaden Whitmarsh was the fifth most in history.Personal: Newberry has one older sister, Emily. She played four seasons of indoor volleyball and three of beach volleyball in high school. She surpassed 1,000 career kills indoors, and was the 2016 PrepVolleyball Sophomore of the Year and the 2017 PrepVolleyball Junior of the Year. |
