Ring's 44-inch vertical jump makes him one of the fiercest competitors at the net and one of the fittest athletes on the AVP Tour. In 2004, he and partner George Roumain captured their first tournament title at the Huntington Beach Open. Ring has played beach volleyball professionally since 2000, and he has advanced to the semifinals in events with three different partners since 2003. In the 2006 season opener he and Roumain knocked off Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers in the second round, handing the winningest team of 2006 their only loss in the first two rounds that year.
Ring grew up on a farm in Bend, Oregon with three brothers. His younger brother Seth played volleyball at Stanford. One of his greatest accomplishments was winning a 4-H Championship in Junior High.
He began playing volleyball at the University of Hawaii and was named 1997 All-American. He was named to the all-tournament team at the 1997 NCAA Championships after his team lost in the title match to UCLA (with Stein Metzger). Ring also spent two years playing alongside Sean Scott in college.
Ring currently resides in Venice, California and works in construction in the off-season.
