A member of Australia's ninth-place Volleyball teams at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and 2002 World Championships, Barnett was Team Schweriner SC that captured the 2001-02 German National League Champions First Division title. She was selected as Australia's Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year in 2002. Barnett competed for Team Caja d’Avila in 2003 that placed fourth in both the Spanish National League First Division and CEV European Club Championships. She played over 200 matches for Australia with National Indoor Women’s Volleyball Team. An Australian Institute of Sport Scholarship holder, she also competed in the Asian Women's Indoor Volleyball Championships (2001and 2003) and the World University Games (2003).
Barnett is in her third year of pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications at Griffith through Open Universities Australia that allows her to continue to complete here studies while representing Australia on the SWATCH-FIVB World.
