HUGE CROWDS ATTEND ASPEN’S MOTHERLODE

Large crowds of spectators surrounded the Main Championship Courts as the first ever NVL at The MotherLode is taking place in Aspen, Colorado this Labor Day Weekend. For the last two days, spectators have been entertained by the best pro beach volleyball players that the Rocky Mountain Region has seen in many years.

The Main Championship Court venue, located at Koch Lumber Park, in Aspen, is an intimate set-up that puts the spectators just feet away from the action. And, the action has been stupendous. The pros of the NVL pro beach volleyball series have not disappointed, providing the crowd with ample opportunities to stand up and scream and cheer. There have been upsets along with the equally anticipated stellar play of these beach volleyball professionals. Although the top seeds, for the most part, have delivered on their expectations; it hasn’t been easy for any of them as they have been pushed to their limits by lower seeded, and unseeded, teams from all over the Country with many matches going the full three games of the best 2-out-of-3 games format.

Although the rest of the tournament is finished (The MotherLode attracted over 550 total teams, competing in 17 different divisions.), the men’s and women’s open divisions continue through Monday, Labor Day, September 5th, with elimination rounds beginning at 8 am building up to the much looked forward to Championship matches which are scheduled for 3 pm and 4 pm, women’s and men’s respectively. The largest purse of any pro event ever held in Colorado, $75,000, has brought 100 pro beach players to Aspen to play in this vaunted volleyfest at one of the country’s most respected mountain resorts.

Spectator admission is FREE.

The NVL is one of three entities that have replaced the vaunted AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) Pro Beach Tour which closed its doors at the beginning of August, last year. The brainchild of long-time beach professional, Albert Hannemann, the National Volleyball League believes in developing and sustaining an unrivaled professional and world-class beach tournament series and volleyball specific, lifestyle events.

The National Volleyball League is a player-focused league, whose mission is to share the amazing sport, and lifestyle, of beach volleyball with the world by creating the ultimate fan experience and allowing fans access to the sports greatest stars.

The annual MotherLode Volleyball Classic, which is going into its 39th consecutive year, has been a pro-am oriented, grassroots volleyball tournament which serves-up 17 different divisions of play to upwards of 700 teams who flock to Aspen from all over the United States and Canada to celebrate the sport at what has been called “the social Event of the outdoor volleyball season”.

The partnering of these two great entities will give fans from all over the Rocky Mountain Region, and beyond, the chance to see some of the best beach volleyball this side of the Pacific Coast Highway. And, as well, the opportunity for players from all-around the Country to play in amateur divisions right alongside the pros.
