1ST ROUND PLAY BEGINS FOR THE NVL AT THE MOTHERLODE!

The National Volleyball League pro beach series began their competition in Aspen, Colorado Saturday at the 39th Annual MotherLode Volleyball Classic. And it started with a “bang” as a couple of unranked teams took down two of the NVL’s top-seeded teams in the first round of play. For starters, the Bomgren brothers, of Minneapolis, MN, defeated the #5 seed of Jon Mesko/Paul Baxter (both from California) in a thrilling 3 game match, winning the third and deciding game of the best 2-out-of-3 match 17-15; and, then, just a short time afterward, the unheralded Colorado team of Mykolai Zerebeckyj (of Westminster, CO) and Kevin Mollman (of Parker, CO) put on a spectacular display of poise and power that had the crowd standing on their feet and screaming as they defeated the #2 seeded team on the NVL tour, Adam Roberts/Braidy Halverson, in a hard fought 3-game match 28-26, 18-21, 16-14; showing just how strong the entire field is in this first ever NVL at The MotherLode.

100 teams of both men’s and women’s pro beach volleyball players have invaded Aspen, Colorado this Labor Day Weekend to compete for a $75,000 combined purse in conjunction with the popular Aspen volleyfest which, annually, draws upwards of 600 teams from all over the Country to compete in 17 different divisions of play. The five days of competition culminates with the finals in all divisions on Monday, Labor Day, September 5th. The Championship matches for the NVL at The MotherLode are scheduled for 3 pm and 4 pm, women’s and men’s respectively.

The NVL is one of three entities that have replaced the vaunted AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) Pro Beach Tour which closed its doors at the beginning of August, last year. The brainchild of long-time beach professional, Albert Hannemann, the National Volleyball League believes in developing and sustaining an unrivaled professional and world-class beach tournament series and volleyball specific, lifestyle events.

The National Volleyball League is a player-focused league, whose mission is to share the amazing sport, and lifestyle, of beach volleyball with the world by creating the ultimate fan experience and allowing fans access to the sports greatest stars.

The annual MotherLode Volleyball Classic, which is going into its 39th consecutive year, has been a pro-am oriented, grassroots volleyball tournament which serves-up 17 different divisions of play to upwards of 700 teams who flock to Aspen from all over the United States and Canada to celebrate the sport at what has been called “the social Event of the outdoor volleyball season”.

The partnering of these two great entities will give fans from all over the Rocky Mountain Region, and beyond, the chance to see some of the best beach volleyball this side of the Pacific Coast Highway. And, as well, the opportunity for players from all-around the Country to play in amateur divisions right alongside the pros.
