College: Downey was a libero at Kansas State, earning a starting position as a freshman. She left the school with the second highest career digs total in the program's history. She was named the Big 12 Libero of the Year in both 2002 and 2003, and was honorable mention all-Big 12 both of those seasons.
Personal: Downey is the youngest of six children, all of whom played volleyball in high school and/or college. Her sister Karrie Downey Larsen played at the University of Colorado, where she set school career records in kills and digs, and was on the U.S. National Team from 1997-98. Downey lettered in volleyball, soccer and diving all four seasons at Helix High in La Mesa, Calif.
