Bio Bits

Toppel was a three-time All-American while playing at Stanford. As a freshman, he tallied 50 kills in an upset win over No. 1 Long Beach State, the fourth best single match total in school history. His 8.65 kills per game average set a new school record by more than one kill per game. He led the nation as a freshman in kills per game, and was third as a sophomore and fifth as a junior. Despite playing just three seasons for the Cardinal, he left his name on five of the career top 10 charts, including kills per game, kills, aces per game, aces and hitting percentage.

In the summer of 2001 he played on the U.S. World University Games team that won a gold medal in Beijing, and in the summer of 2002 trained with the U.S. National Team.
