Murrell is from San Diego and currently resides in Hermosa Beach, Calif. Murrell has been playing volleyball since the age of 13. He played at Mesa College where he was the team captain and MVP. In between volleyball, Murrell has raced Motocross and played baseball professionally. He recently lived in New York City where in 2004 he launched his clothing brand 'Mocha' but is currently pursuing volleyball full time.
Nicknamed "Mocha," Murrell is currently training to earn a spot on the AVP CROCS Tour. His sister Jen and her husband Dax Holdren were also on the Tour and are both pushing him and giving him plenty of inspiration to reach his goals as a top tour player.
