Grew up in Bulgaria with a younger brother and father, who was a professional soccer player, and a mother, who was a professional rhythmic gymnast. Was a Balkan Junior Beach Volleyball Champion in 1998. At Rutgers he surpassed 1,000 kills and was Athletic All-EIVA for three years. In 2003 he was named Rutgers' Male Athlete of the Year.
Iordanov married Kristen Endow in March 2004.
