Jewell's first career win came in 2004 in Austin with Jake Gibb, when the duo was seeded 12th. That win marked the lowest-seeded team to win an AVP event since 1998 (since tied). That season he finished ranked third in points after recording four wins over number one seeds. He has advanced to championship matches on the AVP Tour with three different partners. In his AVP career, Jewell has played with 20 partners, and 15 of them have won a tournament in their pro careers.
He graduated from South Torrance (Calif.) High School in 1993 and earned a degree from El Camino Junior College in 1996. Scouted heavily by top indoor volleyball schools such as Pepperdine, Hawaii, and UC Irvine, Jewell instead decided to jump right on the AVP Tour. Jewell was one of eight players to receive exempt status for the 1998 AVP Tour via the 1997 Wilson qualifying series.
Jewell enjoys surfing, and traveling abroad. He is active in teaching the sport of volleyball to children and adults in the beach setting via clinics and beach camps. He also enjoys teaching high school workout programs for Plyo-City.
