McKeown was a four letterwinner at Liberty University, playing in the NCAA Tournament in 2001. In 2002 and 2003 she was named first-team all-Big South, while also being selected as the conference MVP in 2003. When McKeown finished playing she was third on the school's career charts in both blocks and digs. She graduated with a degree in Sport Management, then served two years as an assistant at Liberty while earning an MBA. In 2006 she became the head coach at San Diego Christian College, which she lists as her greatest accomplishment. McKeown has an older sister, Rebekah, who played basketball at California Baptist University.
