Moriarty was a four-year starting setter for Texas, graduating in 2007. In her first collegiate match, she notched a double-double with 29 assists and 10 digs, and went on to establish the career mark for assists (5,819) at the school. As a sophomore she received AVCA Honorable Mention honors, while her last two seasons she was a third-team AVCA All-America. The Longhorns played in the NCAA Tournament all four of her years there, including a pair of Regional finals appearances.
In high school Moriarty was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas. She led her team to the state semifinals three times, being named all-state all three years. Additionally she played on the golf team (three-time all-district qualifier) and competed in track and field (two-time district finalist in both shot put and discus).
The youngest of four girls, Moriarty's father, Tim, played basketball at Rice.
