Varbanova has a twin sister, Rosie. They grew up in Bulgaria, then moved to the United States for their sophomore season in high school, attending school in Alexandria, Va. They competed two years at Florida Community College before finishing up their collegiate careers at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
