Formerly Diane Wood, Gordon played at St. Mary's University in Minnesota. She was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year her senior season, leading the team to its first ever conference championship as well as first ever NCAA Division II national tournament appearance. Gordon left the school as the all-time ace leader, second in kills and third in digs. She was elected to the school's Hall of Fame in 2006.
