Gentil was a three-time All-American, and the first Libero to garner that honor. Led Minnesota to two Final Four appearances, including a runner-up finish her junior season. She set the NCAA single-season record for digs in 2004. She majored in genetic physiology and cell biology.
Gentil is the middle of three children, and she first competed in beach volleyball around the age of eight. Her mother also played volleyball. In addition to playing volleyball in high school, she played soccer, where she was a goalie, softball and basketball. After two years of high school in Brazil, she moved to Orlando for her last two years of high school.
