Seikaly was selected by the Miami Heat in the first round of the 1988 NBA draft (ninth pick overall), becoming that team's first ever draft choice. In 1989-90 he was named the NBA's Most Improved Player. His NBA career spanned 11 seasons with four different teams (Miami, Golden State, Orlando and New Jersey). After retiring from the league in 1999, he continued to play professionally in Spain.
Seikaly was born in Lebanon but is also a U.S. citizen by birth. He grew up in Athens, Greece, and attended high school in Massachusetts before playing as an amateur in the Greek professional league. He played basketball at Syracuse where he was an All-American center who led his team to the National Championship game as a junior, and his jersey number was later retired by the Orangemen. He became the first Lebanese-born player in the NBA.
