Johnston played two years of volleyball at Richard Stockton College before transferring to West Chester University, where she graduated with honors in Communication Studies.

Johnston, who is a model, was on CBS' "The Amazing Race" season 17. Her younger sister, Devon, also plays beach volleyball.
