Beach Bits:
• Marcio collected his first three FIVB World Tour victories in Brazil in 2000 and 2002, but as of the start of the 2012 season has yet to win another gold medal in his home country.
• Marcio and Benjamin Insfran set an FIVB record in Gstaad in 2002 by playing in 12 matches, beginning with the country quota and after 11 straight match wins, ending with a loss in the gold medal match.

Marcio Araujo began playing Beach Volleyball in 1996. Marcio Araujo and Fabio Magalhaes won the 2005 SWATCH-FIVB World Championship. After losing their first match in Berlin, Fabio and Marcio Araujo won nine-straight matches to claim the gold medal to give Brazil its fourth SWATCH-FIVB World Championship in five events. For the 2005 and 2006 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour seasons, Marcio Araujo and Fabio won seven gold medals in 28 international starts together with a 157-39 match record (80.1%) with 17 medals and 19 "final four" finishes. Marcio Araujo has been a part of the top team on the Circuito Banco do Brasil tour with two different partners in 2000 with Benjamin Insfran and in 2005 with Fabio. Considered as one of the top defensive players in the world, Marcio Araujo is married (Renata) and has a daughter (Mirela, 5). His father is in the theater and his mother works for the government. Marcio Araujo has two brothers (Carlos Andre and Fábio Araújo) and one sister (Luiza Helena). Fábio Araújo captured a FIVB medal at a 2004 satellite event in Argentina with Rodrigo Monteiro. Marcio Araujo enjoys surfing and skating. Marcio Araujo also plays the drums.

2011: Marcio and Ricardo played seven times together, advancing to three semifinals. The duo won one tournament and placed second in the World Championships in Rome. Marcio ended the year playing in five tournaments with former partner Banjamin Insfran, winning once.
2010: Marcio played in the first tournament with Joao Maciel, losing in the qualifier, then Marcio began playing with Ricardo Santos. In their first five events together the duo had a best of fifth, but also were eliminated from two country quotas. In their last five tournaments together, the duo advanced to the semifinals each time, winning a silver and two bronzes.
2009: Marcio and Fabio had a best of third, in the season opener, marking the first time since 2001 that Marcio did not win a tournament. The duo placed fifth in the World Championships in Stavanger.
2008: Marcio and Fabio won just two medals, winning a gold before claiming a silver medal in the Beijing Olympics.
2007: Marcio and Fabio advanced to 10 semifinals, winning three golds, a silver and five bronzes. They finished ninth in the World Championships in Gstaad. For the third straight year the duo placed second in the season points race.
2006: Marcio and Fabio won the season opener, one of four gold medals on the year. The duo had a stretch of six consecutive appearances in title matches, winning three straight in that span. They won a total of eight medals but again finished as the second ranked team in terms of season points.
2005: Marcio formed a new partnership with Fabio Luiz Magalhaes, and in their first event together the duo went undefeated through the country qualifier, the qualifier and the main draw without losing a single set in winning the gold medal. In their next two events they won a bronze and then a gold in the World Championships in Berlin after dropping their first match and winning nine straight matches. On the year the new partnership yielded three golds, three silvers and three bronzes. Marcio and Fabio finished second in the FIVB season points championship, losing by just 12 points (5108 to 5096).
2004: Marcio and Benjamin won one gold and one bronze in their four semifinal appearances. The duo placed ninth in the Athens Olympics
2003: Marcio and Benjamin won three events to go with a silver and a bronze. The bronze came in the season finale, the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. They finished second in the season points race for the second straight year.
2002: Marcio revived his partnership with Benjamin.beginning the year with a 57th-place finish, the lowest ever for the duo. In the next event, they won 11 straight matches, beginning with the country quota, before finally losing in the gold medal match. They would win three more medals that season, including two silvers and a gold in the season finale, and ended as the FIVB second-ranked team in season points.
2001: Marcio played twice with Adriano Garrido, starting the year off with a ninth-place finish but the duo lost in the qualifier playoff in the next event. Marcio and Luizao Correa played three times, losing in qualifier playoffs each time. He then reunited for one tournament with Benjamin, placing 33rd.
2000: For the first time, Marcio began playing full time on the FIVB Tour. He and Banjamin won the season opener as well as the season finale, with both of the wins coming in Brazil. In between, the pair won three silvers and a bronze. They ended the year fourth in the FIVB season points ranking.
1999: Marcio formed a partnership with Benjamin Insfran, and in their first tournament together the duo won an FIVB Challenger event. The pair also placed seventh in an FIVB event in Brazil.
1998: Marcio and Castro lost in the qualifier of the only FIVB World Tour event the duo played in, but did finish 17th in an FIVB Challenger event.
1997: Marcio and Castro played in two qualifiers in Brazil, falling short of the main draw both times.
1996: Marcio began his international beach volleyball career with a tournament in Brazil, finishing 17th with Reis Castro.

Olympics (two, 9th, silver, 4-2 Pool, 3-2 Elimination, 7-4 Overall):
• Qualified for Athens 2004 Olympics as the number two seed with Benjamin Insfran. After finishing pool play with a 2-1 record, lost in the third round of bracket play to Switzerland's Martin Laciga/Paul Laciga, finishing 9th.
• Qualified for Beijing 2008 Olympics as the number four seed with Fabio Luiz Magalhaes. After finishing pool play with a 2-1 record, won five matches in bracket play, lost in the finals to United States' Phil Dalhausser/Todd Rogers getting the silver medal.
