Greene was the UNC Rookie of the Year in 1999 and a two-time team MVP. As a sophomore she was second-team all-ACC, and was first-team all-conference her last two years as well as an AVCA All-Region member. Greene was named the 2002 ACC Player of the Year. Her senior season she was also awarded third-team All-American honors, becoming the first All-American in school history, in addition to being a CoSIDA Academic All-America. Greene left UNC as the school's all-time digs leader, and fourth on the career charts in kills.
Greene was the 1998 Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina after leading her team to three consecutive state titles. She was the high school conference player of the year in 1996 and 1998, and was the state championship MVP both years as well. In addition to playing volleyball in high school, she also played basketball, softball and ran track. In 1998 she was the conference basketball player of the year.
Her brother, Chad, was a quarterback at Western Carolina.
